2018 SARA Awards Breakfast

The 2018 Annette DeGregoria Grimm Award Celebration is 7:30am on November 7th at the Boar's Head Inn. Named for one of SARA's long-time Executive Directors, the celebration honors ordinary citizens or professionals who have made extraordinary contributions to the elimination of sexual violence in our community.

This year, the Sexual Assault Resource Agency (SARA) will honor Geri Greenspan, a local lawyer with the firm Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP. Ms. Greenspan’s practice focuses exclusively on pro bono matters, and concentrates on representing and advising domestic and sexual assault violence survivors, including those seeking court protection from an abuser for themselves and their children.

“This event is an opportunity to honor a woman who has provided invaluable services to local sexual assault survivors,” said SARA Direct Services Advocate, Gleibys Gonzalez, “Through her experience and dedication, Geri has developed expertise in the dynamics of sexual violence and uses a trauma-informed approach with SARA's clients. She provides them legal counsel free of charge and empowers survivors to face their attackers in the courtroom. We are so grateful to have her in our community doing this important work.”

Keynote speaker for the SARA Breakfast is Annie Forrest, an Engagement Manager at One Love, the non-profit formed in Yeardley Love’s honor to create a movement to end relationship abuse. A native of Virginia, Annie graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Psychology and a B.A. in Women, Gender, & Sexuality. She was deeply involved in the sexual and relationship violence prevention community while at UVA, which sparked her desire to work in the field of violence prevention full-time.

The event includes a breakfast buffet and a Silent Auction.

Individual tickets are $40.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Diversified funding sources are critical for the long-term sustainability of the agency. The proceeds from this event, combined with private contributions throughout the year, have made up about 30% of SARA's annual operating budget for prevention education and community outreach.

We expect 200+ attendees including medical professionals, legislators, philanthropists, staff and volunteers from other non-profit and social service organizations, county and city agency representatives, and individuals from the private sector interested in strengthening our community.
