In our chaotic and demanding world, we often forget about ourselves while prioritizing the needs of others. At SARA, we believe self-care is essential for maintaining overall well-being and leading a balanced life. We intentionally take time to nourish our mind, body, and soul to promote mental clarity and emotional resilience.
Check out these self-care tips from the SARA team...
1. Anushey Ahmed, Justice Systems Advocate: Accountability is good, but if you act out when you feel unwell there’s space to be forgiving of yourself and responsible for what you did, and you don’t necessarily have to pick between either. This is one of the biggest reminders I give to myself when I’m feeling unwell and guilty at the same time. Maybe a good way to practice this kind of thinking is laying it out, inspiration here: Vent Diagrams
2. Bass Wolf, Interim Executive Director: My basics are restful sleep, nourishing meals, tending to my spaces, and movement. Walking is restorative for me - easy scenic movement is helpful for me to process and let go of thoughts.
3. Carley Mack, Director of Prevention: (currently in my pregnancy era) At the end of a long day I look forward to a giant bowl of popcorn (I throw in some M&Ms), put on a TV show that has a familiar ending, have an “everything” shower/skin care session, put on cozy PJs, and curl up in freshly washed sheets with my giant pregnancy pillow!
4. Jacqueline Schell, Adult Client Advocate: I make a nourishing meal and a sweet treat! The process of planning, shopping, and cooking, for me, is helpful in having something tangible to focus on. Then of course, enjoying a meal (hopefully with someone I care about) is the most restorative part of the experience.
5. Jennifer Martinez-Spears, Child and Family Advocate: Be well rested, be in the moment, and acknowledge your current feelings. In order to do this, I meditate, crochet, and listen to my favorite music.
6. Katie Aplis, Crisis Services Coordinator: Album walks! I go on a long walk to the tune of a full album from start to finish.
7. Kenna Campfield, Rural Advocate: I try to stay active and social by playing a team sport! I also love spending time around the people (and animals!) that bring me the most joy.
8. Mercer Reeves, Therapist: I take a bath, read my book, and cuddle my puppy.
9. Nicole Baucum, Therapist: I watch Real Housewives!
10. Priya Bajaj, Office Manager: I fold myself into a burrito blankie and embrace that #NapLife. It’s an instant refresh, reset, and restoration.
